The Town of Saguache has several boards and commissions that are made up of volunteers from the community. These boards and commissions are responsible for advising the Town Board on a variety of issues, including land use, historic preservation, recreation, and more. Board of Trustees
The Town of Saguache is governed by a Board of Trustees, which is made up of the Mayor and six Trustees. The Board of Trustees is responsible for making policy decisions for the Town, including approving budgets, ordinances, and resolutions. The Board of Trustees meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 PM in the Saguache County Road & Bridge Meeting Room.

Board of Adjustments
The Board of Adjustment’s principal function is to act upon requests for variances from existing and future land use regulation as well as interpreting their meaning and intent. If you wish to apply for a variance please complete the below variance application and return to the Saguache Town Hall.

Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission was created on May 18, 2009 for the purpose of protecting and preserving the Town of Saguache’s historic and cultural heritage, as embodied in designated landmarks, contributing structures, and districts by appropriate regulations; enhancing property values, stabilizing historic neighborhoods and streetscapes, and promoting harmonious growth and development of the Town; increasing economic and financial benefits through the Town’s attractions to tourists and visitors; providing educational opportunities to increase public appreciation of the Town of Saguache’s unique heritage; and encouraging business and commercial development or uses in the Town of Saguache that are appropriate and compatible, and that truly reflect the spirit of this historic preservation ordinance.

Planning Commission
The mission of the Saguache Planning Commission is to: Develop community visioning, plan for the future, encourage economic development, while maintaining the Town’s historical and cultural significance. The Planning Commission is currently working on a draft of a land use code for the Town of Saguache. There will be public hearings held to solicit input before the code is completed. Watch for notice of upcoming hearings.

Saguache Recreation Board
The mission of the Saguache Recreation Board is to provide a comprehensive community wide recreation program with a variety of recreation activities and services for residents and visitors of all ages, based on the needs, interests, abilities, existing and potential resources of the Town. By providing these leisure services, residents and visitors will be able to choose from a variety of healthy, wholesome alternatives that will enhance the quality of their lives. Saguache Recreation Board meets quarterly. Speak with any member of the Recreation Board to volunteer to help with any of the activities.
Tree Board
The Saguache Tree Board maintains the trees that are located on the municipal right-of-way and municipal land in the Town of Saguache. Our trees beautify our town, and we are grateful to the Tree Board for caring for them. Saguache is a member of the Tree City USA program. Saguache Tree Board meets the second Thursday of every month.

Vista Grande Recreation Area
Vista Grande Recreation Area is a 220-acre site located off Highway 285, just east of downtown Saguache created from a $250,000 grant from the Saguache County Board of County Commissioners. Saguache residents and visitors can enjoy 7 miles of hiking trails. Uses include hiking, horseback riding, and ADA compliant trails. An archery range is coming soon.

The Vista Grande Recreation has an advisory council that meets as needed to make suggestions to the Board of Trustees. The council is made up of volunteers from the surrounding area as well as other organizations such as the Bureau of Land Managements (BLM), Forest Service, non-profit organizations.
