 Dispicable Me

A mysterious criminal mastermind has stolen one of the pyramids in Egypt, sparking a fit of jealous envy in evil genius Gru (Steve Carell), who hasn't managed to make headlines since he and his minions swiped the Times Square JumboTron years back. Ever since Gru was a little boy, he dreamed of going to the moon. Now, if Gru can just build a rocket and get his hands on a powerful shrink-ray, he can cement his reputation as the greatest thief who ever lived by stealing the Earth's satellite right out of the sky

A woman who once made it her goal in life to marry and rear a family finds her priorities suddenly shifting in Ryan Murphy and Jennifer Salt's adaptation of author Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling memoir. In the eyes of many, Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) was a woman who had it all -- a loving husband, a great career, and a weekend home -- but sometimes one realizes too little too late that they haven't gotten what they truly wanted from life.

  • Starring: Jason Statham, Jet Li, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwartzneger
  • Genre(s): Action, Adventure, Thriller

The only life they’ve known is war. The only loyalty they have is to each other. They are the Expendables:

An all-star cast of action-movie icons headline Sylvester Stallone's explosive action thriller about a group of hard-nosed mercenaries who are double-crossed during a treacherous mission. Approached by the shadowy Church (Bruce Willis) to overthrow tyrannical South American dictator General Gaza (David Zayas) and restore order to the troubled island country of Vilena, stoic soldier of fortune Barney Ross (Stallone) rounds up an unstoppable team that includes former SAS soldier and blade specialist Lee Christmas (Jason Statham); martial arts expert Yin (Jet Li); trigger-happy Hale Caesar (Terry Crews); and cerebral demolitions expert Toll Road (Randy Couture). Traveling to Vilena on a reconnaissance mission with his old pal Christmas, Barney meets their local contact, a cagey guerrilla fighter named Sandra (Giselle Itie), and together the trio scopes out the landscape..

The Historic Ute Theater

The Ute Theatre was built in 1916.  It was a Livery Stable owned by Jud Keyes.  Later it served as a garage and blacksmith shop.

In  1947 Ross Labart bought the building and increased the height of the building and built the Ute Theatre.

After a few years, Luis Groy, took over the operation of running the theatre.  His daughter Josie and her husband kept the business going for many years.  They sold to Rod Hines, who ran it for a short time.  He sold it to Susan Crutchfield.  I purchased it in May of 2009.

I believe the seats are of the late 1930’s or early 40’s.  They are made of straw, and have an interesting art deco detail to them, which used to have lights at the base of them and are cast metal.

The Popcorn Machine is a 1952 Manley Aristocrat- Top of the Line Model.  There are very few left in existence.

Extensive renovations have been done including plumbing and electrical.  Walls and 2 sets of double doors have been removed in order to open up the lobby area.   The entrance to the theatre has been relocated in order to provide better sound deadening, and create a place for theatrical lighting above the new entrance.  In order to retain the architectural element of the original entrances to the theatre,  the top half of each of the original doorways has been retained and now showcases the next weeks “Coming Soon” posters.

The original men’s bathroom has been remodeled to more than double its size in order to accommodate wheelchairs.  In addition to that, the 1st two rows of the theatre flanking the center seats are handicap accessible.

A full line of concessions are available in both regular and vegetarian menu including all beef hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, egg rolls, taquitos, burritos, candy, soft drinks and coffee.

The theatre also plays host to a nice size stage.  This affords the opportunity to offer theatrical events, including plays, talent reviews, music, and even conferences.  I am presently working on purchasing both a computer and projector, to be able to offer the space for conferences and meetings, and be able to use power point presentations.

the theatre is available for lease.  It seats 185 people.   It can be used for birthday parties, meetings, private showings, exhibitions, etc.  Also in the future are plans for a beer and wine license.

In November, we began offering both “Ute Bucks” and “Foreign/Independent Film Preferred Pass”.  Ute Bucks can be purchased in denominations of 20’s, 10’s at a 10% discount.  For example purchasing twenty dollars of Ute Bucks will cost eighteen dollars, and can be used to either purchase movie tickets or concession items.  The Art Film Preferred Pass can be purchased in either 3 month or 6 month booklets.
The cost is 21 dollars  for a 3 month booklet and 42 dollars  for a 6 month booklet.  Each admission ticket includes a free popcorn and fountain drink with admission.
Both of these items will make great gifts, and will be available for purchase at the theatre box office.

A wonderful and intimate theatre experience-  ENJOY!
