Baskets by J. Byron Williams

In the fifteen years I have been a fulltime studio artist, it has become a matter of pride with me, that each piece I produce is a unique, one-of-a-kind, work of art. Each object is imbued with my love and respect for nature and tradition. Inspiration for my designs and creations come from many sources, friends, everyday observations, and study of design and techniques from other cultures. My Celtic heritage and my life-long exposure to and fascination with Native American cultures provide underlying depth and themes that contribute to the spiritual power of my work.

Sometimes I become enthralled with a facet of my work and I go off into it. An example is my recent fascination with rattles. A need to replenish my supply of child-friendly banana gourd rattles led me through increasingly more complex gourd rattles, to ones with antler handles and on to rawhide and turtle shell rattles. My fascination is such that I am working on a descriptive written piece about use and manufacture of rattles.

My work embodies elements of mysticism, humor, and respect for all things natural. I believe a serious observer will sense the power and strength that comes from the part of me that goes into each piece.

I hope you will enjoy looking at the examples I have included on this website. Should I have the good fortune to meet with you in person, I would be delighted if you would share with me, your thoughts and observations about my work.

Please contact me if you have any questions about my work or to arrange a private showing.

Peace, Love and Light…
Byron
